Dr. Sergio is a person of many talents. As far as the eye can see, Dr. Sergio was exposed early on to the healing arts through his mother, Ms. Belen Barrera. His active imagination and deep sense of self was integral to following the path of least resistance and that has made all the difference in life. After High School, he studied Architecture and Chicano Studies at UC Berkeley and later completed his Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. While at Western States University, Dr. Sergio was particularly drawn to soft and deep tissue manipulation. Among the techniques taught, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation) and muscle/tendon manipulation were big personal favorites.
Dr. Sergio utilizes soft tissue manipulation to treat many conditions related to severe spinal trauma resulting from a variety of causes (auto injury, sports/martial arts injury and chronic pain due to inflammatory conditions). Dr. Sergio also holds advanced certifications for whiplash injury from the Croft Institute of San Diego, CA. Dr. Sergio is a certified Zone Technique practitioner and is proud to say that this is the foundation for his practice.
As a practitioner of Tai'Chi and Brazilian jujitsu, Dr. Sergio is deeply grateful to have met his mentors before his decision to choose Chiropractic as an expression and practice in the healing arts. Dr. Alex Feng, founder of the Zhi Dao Guan Institute in Oakland, CA is always an inspiration to him as well as Dr. Goldman in San Francisco, founder of Zone Technique who teaches effective methods to achieve greater results in the chiropractic field.
Dr. Sergio's hobbies are skate boarding, roller blading, jujitsu, wood working, improvisational acting, dancing, playing the Peruvian Quena, and making people laugh. Colibri in Spanish translates to hummingbird and similar in fashion his patients fare well in speedy recovery, thus the name of his clinic.
